This website is running off a 1980s era Macintosh Plus, the earliest Macintosh that can support a web server without significant hardware changes. This project was inspired by the Vintage Macintosh community and Macintosh hacks I remember from my teen years, CamNeerg and Cobalt. |

The Cracked Mac is a Mac Plus that was purchased as part of a bulk purchase. It arrived with a damaged base, a defective analog board, and a non-booting motherboard. Assembled from the worst of five Mac Plusses, this is a system built from scrap, yet runs nearly 24/7 (taken offline during the heat of summer). |

How Does it Work? The Mac Plus has limited networking options, modem, AppleTalk over serial, or using a SCSI/Ethernet adapter. The Cracked Mac uses AppleTalk over serial, requiring a LocalTalk bridge and gateway. Currently using a Performa 476 running the Appletalk IP Router and AppleTalk IP Gateway software on System 7.1 update 3 (with MacTCP) to provide my AppleTalk connected machines (and the Cracked Mac) internet access. Performance is dialup modem at best. |
